Laser Spider Vein Removal

Spider veins most commonly occur on the legs. They may also occur on the face, particularly around the nose. Intense pulsed light (IPL) is usually used for facial vessels. We utilize the Palomar laser which is ideal for targeting spider veins on the legs. The light pulses from the laser heat the blood within the leg veins. The heat from the laser or IPL causes the vessel to constrict and eventually fade from view.

Some people have large varicose veins which sprout small branches and appear as spider veins. Unless the underlying large veins are treated, the spider veins will certainly return. We will advise our patient if there seems to be a reasonable certainty of this and refer for other treatment.

What Are Laser Leg Vein Treatments Like?
The Palomar Lux handpiece moves over your skin along the length of the vein, pulsing beams of light through your skin along the way. There will be an audible tone and a mild sensation as the handpiece is being pulsed. The tip of the handpiece is cooled so that your skin is continually cooled which minimizes discomfort.

What Should I Expect After Treatment?
Immediately after treatment there are 3 possible outcomes:
1) the vessel disappears
2) the vessel darkens
3) the vessel shrinks.

The surrounding skin may turn pink and be slightly swollen for up to 24 hours.
Often more than one treatment is necessary to achieve full clearance of leg veins.
