Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing
A unique laser therapy for dramatically repairing fine lines, wrinkles, and improving skin texture and pigmentation with minimal downtime.
Available now, the new Palomar StarLux lasers “combine the best of laser technology with the science of dermatology”. This laser utilizes a new technology called Fractional Resurfacing. With fractional resurfacing, only a fraction of the skin receives the penetrating laser beams. The laser delivers multiple closely spaced penetrating beams into the skin while preserving normal healthy skin between the laser spots. This approach results in rapid healing. The procedure takes 30-45 minutes. We provide a numbing cream to be applied 45 minutes before the procedure which will then be washed off before the treatment begins.
Unprecedented Treatment without Significant Downtime
This treatment is ideal for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, some surgical scars, stretch marks, and sun damaged skin. Most individuals will have 2 days of significant redness and possibly some swelling. Usually by the third day the skin appears as if one has a light sunburn. The skin may then have a light sandpaper feel which will disappear after a week or so. No pain medication is required after treatment. Applying cold compresses reduces redness and swelling for the 2 days after treatment.
How Many Treatments Are Required
Fractional resurfacing allows you to receive gradual improvement of yourskin problems, thus avoiding the appearance of a major reconstruction, and you won’t appear as if you have had a surgical procedure. Normally, as we age, our skin begins to sag and wrinkle because the supporting tissues beneath the skin become disorganized . The laser beam used for fractional resurfacing reaches down to those layers and causes collagen remodeling. Wrinkles and sagging evolve slowly over time. And so, this conservative approach to wrinkle reduction and scar improvement evolves over time . Clinical studies have shown that 3-4 treatments spaced at 3-4 week intervals produce this gradual remodeling which can continue for 6 months after treatment. Some severe problems may require more than this number of treatments.
